Chapter 15

That night they were sitting in the front room relaxing. Helena watched the television, a nature documentary that at times made her eyes shine with repressed sorrow and whilst she did Eve watched her. She looks like a tiger, she thought, so much energy that is contained in stillness and yet could be unleashed at any time. It was the same energy she felt from the ocean, calm and serene and yet under the surface strong enough to kill her at any moment.

“Why are you watching me?” Helena’s eyes never moved from the screen yet she had felt Eve’s eyes upon her. Some inner sense had spoken and it raised questions Eve knew had to be asked. “Imagining what I would look like in a wetsuit?” A half smile crossed her lips as she watched T.V and Eve knew she was playing with her.

“No, I was just thinking how like the ocean you are.” She chose her words carefully as she spoke. “You have so much hidden that I want to know.” She shrugged, “I feel like every new thing I learn about you, just leads me to more questions. So call me curious.”

“Just curious, I feel let down.” Helena flashed a smile that promised so much and Eve felt her breath deepen.

Ok, no shame right, she thought, so let’s give you some truth. “No not just curious. I wonder what you would be like in bed. I wonder what you would feel like to touch, what you would taste like if I kissed you,“ Eve stared at Helena who didn’t move a muscle but she saw her cheeks blush and laughing she exclaimed excitedly “Got you to blush!”

Reaching over to the remote Helena clicked the television off, giving herself time to regain some composure. Then turning to face Eve she shrugged, “Ok, what do you want to know about me.”

“Anything, everything,” Eve tilted her head to one side. Long dark hair fell and brushed against her ear and she moved it unconsciously. “Most of my adult life has been in the media. You know stuff about me, so tell me something about you.”

“Why?” The gaze that never left her was full of that nervous energy she had seen before. Getting up she walked over to sit by Eve on the couch. “Why is it important to know about me? After you are better you will leave and rejoin your life of fame and fortune, will you not and I will just be the weird woman who healed you?” The words were hard, and Eve shrugged.

“Honestly I am not sure. I thought that life was all I wanted but it led me to nothing but misery. The only thing I loved was the music and Robert was right. I can do that differently. It’s time to change the game I was playing, time for Eve the pop star to become Eve the musician.” She fidgeted nervously in her seat, “Maybe I just want to know something about the person who is helping me.
